France

In France, assisted reproduction (AMP) is overseen by the Agence de la biomédecine, with regional health agencies authorising clinics. The Agence publishes a public directory of authorised centres, and treatment is broadly covered by public health insurance for eligible patients.

How care is organised

Fertility care in France is delivered through authorised clinics. Treatment is generally covered by public health insurance for eligible patients, subject to prior agreement and statutory limits, and since 2021 access has included female couples and single women. Confirm current eligibility and any age or attempt limits with Assurance Maladie.

Regulation and finding a clinic

The Agence de la biomédecine (ABM) oversees assisted reproduction nationally and publishes a public directory of authorised centres, which you can use to check a clinic. The clinical establishments themselves are authorised by the regional health agencies (ARS). The framework is set by France’s bioethics law.
